Originally fonts were licensed by the printer, this dates back to days when printer fonts were held on a hard disc within the printer. With the almost universal implementation of ATM(Adobe Type Manager) it means that the printer font must be accessible to the workstation in order to render an accurate screen image of the font. It was therefore decided to license workstations instead of printers.
As the ratio of printers to workstations averages 3 to 1 it is more than fair that one license per 5 workstations has become the norm.
If you have existing printer based licenses these will be honoured indefinitely under present laws. If you have existing printer based licenses and wish to increase the number of licenses, either printer or workstation please contact us for further details.
It is very difficult to be sure that you are completely legal with regard to fonts, depending upon the size of your company it can be a nightmare to get to grips with the whole subject.
We offer a free and completely confidential service whereby we will help you audit your company with regards to font usage and will give you a full and accurate report, warts and all. What you do with this report is up to you, we do not pass on any information to any third parties under any circumstances. We rely on your own honesty.
