Fonts are split into two main categories, Roman and Non-Roman fonts.
Non-Roman fonts do not use the 26 letters of the alphabet that we are familiar with, but instead use symbols and characters unique to their culture and heritage. The variants are almost limitless with some languages actually written from right to left!
Not all Non-Roman languages are available for use on Macintosh and PC computers, and some of those that are available will also require special software in order for them to run.
Roman fonts use the English language character set but with additional accents. A standard font is normally composed of around 200 characters and will contain all the accents for Western European and Scandinavian countries.
However countries such as Poland, Latvia, Croatia, Romania, Estonia, Turkey, and dozens of others have their own unique accents and additional characters.
A limited range of font styles are available that cover these languages, but Mac and PC compatibility issues can arise.
